Hildegardo “Japo” Joya produces Mezonte Raicilla Japo using maguey Amarillo (Agave rhodacantha), which is considered synonymous or closely related to maguey Mexicano. This Raicilla is made in Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco, by Japo, who is 87 years old as of 2019 and still regularly produces Raicilla. As per tradition in this region, Japo only harvests agave during a full moon's light.
