Laphroaig, a renowned brand of high-end Islay single malt Scotch whisky, is produced by the Larphoraig Distillery, which was founded by Donald and Alexander Johnston in 1815. Despite changing ownership several times since the 1960s, it was acquired by Suntory Holdings' Beam Suntory in 2014. Laphroaig is famous for its intensely flavored Scotch whiskies and is the sole whisky to hold the Royal Warrant of the Prince of Wales, which it was awarded in 1994. The brand boasts a selection of products, including a few rare and expensive expressions, such as their now-discontinued 18-year-old version, which was last available in 2015. What sets Laphroaig apart from many blended Scotch whisky producers is that it malts its barley in its own facilities. After the barley is malted, it is completed in special kilns with over 205 years of seasoning, which imparts a distinctive note that Laphroaig enthusiasts have come to identify and crave.
