Monkey 47 is a premium German gin renowned for its extraordinary complexity and craftsmanship. Originating from the Black Forest, this artisanal gin was inspired by a unique recipe created by British Wing Commander Montgomery Collins in the 1950s. After settling in Germany, Collins developed a passion for distillation, blending traditional British gin-making techniques with local botanicals from the Black Forest. His original formula, which included an unusual number of ingredients, laid the foundation for what would later become Monkey 47.  

Revived in 2008 by Alexander Stein and master distiller Christoph Keller, Monkey 47 stays true to its rich heritage while embracing modern innovation. The name itself reflects its defining characteristic—an intricate composition of 47 botanicals, far exceeding the standard gin recipe. This extensive selection includes classic juniper, bright citrus, floral lavender, and exotic spices, along with rare Black Forest ingredients like lingonberries, spruce shoots, and elderflower. Each botanical is carefully macerated and distilled in small batches, resulting in a spirit of unparalleled depth and balance.  

Monkey 47’s signature taste is a harmonious blend of herbal, floral, and citrus notes, complemented by a subtle earthiness and a crisp, dry finish.
