Found North's Batch 003 rye whisky is a well-crafted blend of different aged whiskies. The foundation of the blend is an 18-year-old rye aged in ex-tequila barrels, and an additional 18-year-old rye aged in ex-Speyside scotch casks. A delicate component of 21-year-old corn aged in used American oak was also added to the blend. Additionally, the distinct notes of baking spice and brown sugar come from a 17-year-old rye and a 25-year-old corn, both aged in Hungarian oak.
With a final mash bill of 64% rye, 32% corn, and 4% malted barley, this 750ml outrun is bottled at a cask strength of 55.1% ABV. The rye character is prominent on the nose, along with a subtle hint of candied ginger that becomes more apparent on the palate. Despite its light color, it is bursting with flavors of pepper, spice, and richness. The sweetness is noticeable after a few sips, with notes of graham cracker and vanilla. This rye whisky is best enjoyed neat without water.
